As a New Zealand based economist, Paul Callister has over the last two decades undertaken research for a wide range of public and private sector organisations, addressing local, national, and cross-national issues. Paul is currently an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of Policy Studies, School of Government, Victoria University, Wellington.
Research Interests
Paul's recent research has focused on the changing distribution of paid and unpaid work at the level of both the individual and the household. This has included a focus on the polarisation of work across households; fertility and 'family-friendly' policies; employment scheduling; the role of fathers within families; as well as the links between changes in the labour market and changes in the form and function of households.
Other recent research has included ethnic intermarriage and the transmission of ethnicity within households; and changing sex ratios in New Zealand. Paul has worked with a variety of scholars, policy analysts, and specialist research methodologists.
